Widely recognized as the predecessor to [Black Myth: Wukong], the game drew spiritual inspiration from Wukong Zhuan (Monkey King’s Saga), breaking traditional mythological narratives to champion the core theme of “defying authority and defending freedom”. Through high-precision motion capture, cinematic-grade combat effects, and deep optimization of the AGE Engine (Advanced Game Environment), it redefined the expressive boundaries of Eastern mythological themes. The title’s seven promotional trailers—Zhan Shen (God of War), Po Jian (Breaking the Cocoon), Qi Yuan ( Genesis), Qi Cheng (Departure), Ni Tian (Defying Heaven), Sheng Seng (Holy Monk), and Ne Zha—crafted an epic visual saga that reimagined mythological storytelling through its unique worldbuilding and immersive combat mechanics.

The game immediately sparked player frenzy upon launch, achieving over 90% approval rating during closed beta and surpassing 10 million registered users within its first operational month. It peaked at 600,000 concurrent users, setting new records for user growth and engagement in China-developed MMORPGs at the time. Honored with the 7th Jin Kou Award for “Annual Product” for its profound narrative, it also received Tencent’s highest R&D accolade—the Jiguang Award for Best Creative Project. The seven promotional trailers gained global attention for their cinematic storytelling and production quality, including CG sequences co-created by The Third Floor (renowned for Avatar previsualization). Its 7-minute gameplay demo stunned the industry, widely acknowledged as a breakthrough in audiovisual narrative and industrial standards for Chinese games.
