“Reminiscence” Centered on the composer’s reflections by the seaside, this work weaves together fragments from multiple compositions created between 2000 and 2005, including “Urban Love Song”, “Soar”, “Velocity”, “Tibetan Mantras”, and “The Journey”. It reflects the artist’s profound musical interpretations of ideals, love, reality, religion, and dance.
1. “Urban Love Song” (2005)
Composed during the peak of R&B’s popularity in China, this piece adopts a pop ballad style to depict lovers’ romantic strolls under the modern urban night sky, enveloped in a dreamlike, intoxicating atmosphere.
2. “Soar” (2000)
Themed around freedom and flight, this work fuses classical and contemporary musical elements to express the pursuit of dreams and aspirations. (For additional details, please provide background on creative inspiration, stylistic influences, etc.)
3. “Velocity” (2002)
Structured around a 12-bar blues framework, this dynamic piece evokes the adrenaline of racing, with guitars seemingly wailing as if performed live at a high-speed car race, embodying raw speed and passion.
4. “Tibetan Mantras” (2004)
Commissioned by a senior Buddhist master from Xi’an, this composition was created for the Tibetan Buddhist sutra “Taking Refuge”. It blends traditional ritual instruments like gyaling (Tibetan oboe) and damaru (hand drum) with modern electronic textures, evoking the sacred, profound, and solemn essence of snow-capped Himalayan landscapes and spiritual transcendence.
5. “The Journey” (2003)
A dance-inspired score composed in chromatic electronic music, this work mirrors the spiritual states of different life stages. A selected excerpt contrasts war and peace, expressing a longing for harmony. It premiered at the composer’s solo concert.
Through this mosaic of works, Chasing Memories transcends time and genre, uniting diverse themes into a cohesive narrative. Each piece serves as a sonic postcard, inviting listeners to explore the intersection of human emotion, cultural heritage, and the eternal quest for meaning.
