“Nanshan PSAs – Shenzhen 26th Summer Universiade” In 2011, Shenzhen hosted the 26th Summer Universiade, marking the third time China welcomed this global event, following Beijing in 2001 and Harbin in 2009. Shenzhen secured the hosting rights following a highly competitive bidding process against major international cities in Russia, Spain, Poland, and Taipei. On August 12, under the official slogan “Start Here,” the Games officially opened in this cornerstone city of economic reform, following a historic torch relay initiated at Tsinghua University.

The opening ceremony was attended by President Hu Jintao and presided over by Yuan Guiren and Liu Peng. The event brought together 7,865 athletes representing 152 countries and regions to compete across 306 athletic events. The Chinese delegation concluded the competition with a record – breaking 75 gold medals, bringing the global event to a flawless close.
