“10000 Years Later” independently developed and produced by Shenzhen Yili Animation & Film, premiered nationwide in 2015 after seven years of dedicated creation. Utilizing full CG technology, the film constructs an epic Eastern sci – fi world set against a post – human civilization where humans and otherworldly creatures battle for survival among ruins, exploring profound philosophical questions about the continuity of civilization. For this landmark project, veteran New Zealand sound designer John McKay, celebrated for his work on The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies, was brought on board to collaborate on the film’s complex sonic architecture.

The film earned a nomination for Outstanding Animated Feature at the 16th China Film Huabiao Awards, recognized for its unique original universe and visual innovation. It stands as a benchmark work in the industrial development of original Chinese animation. Following its release on Tencent Video, it has consistently attracted a dedicated fanbase of fantasy and sci – fi enthusiasts, driving technological advancement in Chinese – language animation.

Our team was honored to handle all aspects of the film’s audio production, including voice casting, sound design, music integration, and the final mixing. Throughout the process, we worked in close collaboration with John McKay’s team, exchanging creative ideas, bridging Eastern and Western sonic aesthetics, and jointly crafting a rich, emotionally resonant auditory experience for this expansive sci – fi universe.
