Over three years of production, the crew traveled 30,000 kilometers, covering 18 provinces and cities, and visited over 100 primary and secondary schools and universities nationwide. Through in-depth interviews with frontline teachers, education experts, students, and parents, the team collected extensive first-hand visual materials.

Each episode centers on a core issue—“The Gaokao Dilemma,” “The Decline of Rural Education,” “The Absence of Civic Education,” and “The Challenge of Reducing Academic Burden”—using a calm, objective lens to expose structural contradictions such as educational inequity, administrative rigidity, and exam-oriented pressure. The series ignited nationwide discussions on systemic reforms in education.

The documentary holds a 9.4 rating on Douban, China’s leading review platform, and was hailed by Southern Metropolis Daily and Sanlian Life Weekly as “one of the most socially impactful educational documentaries in the past decade.” It has been adopted as a teaching reference by education departments in multiple universities, solidifying its role as a cultural catalyst for educational reflection.
