“Dungeon & Fighter” (DNF), developed by Korean game developer NEOPLE and published by Samsung Electronics, launched in South Korea in 2005. As a pioneering force in global 2D side-scrolling fighting MMORPGs, DNF quickly gained popularity across Asian markets through its unique multiplayer interaction system. It has since become a legendary IP in gaming history with over 100 million registered users worldwide. In 2008, Tencent Games acquired the Chinese publishing rights and extended its lifespan through localized operations and continuous content updates, establishing it as one of China’s longest-operating and most stable action MMORPGs in PC gaming history.

Since its debut, the game has consistently earned industry acclaim: in 2007, it received the “Online Game Popularity Award” and “Excellence in Game Award” at the Korea Game Awards, and ranked #1 on Korean MMOG charts. After its introduction in China, it achieved explosive popularity—surpassing 800,000 concurrent users within months of its 2008 open beta. That same year, it won the Golden Feather Award for “Best Foreign Online Game” and “Top 10 Most Popular Online Games,” as well as the “Golden Finger Award—Best Online Game” at the China Game Industry Annual Conference, soon announcing over one million concurrent users. Its momentum continued into 2010, when it again received the Golden Feather Award for “Best Foreign Online Game” and was named one of the “Top 10 2D Online Games of the Year” in Sina’s Chinese Online Game Rankings. By 2011, peak concurrent users exceeded 2.6 million, and the game received multiple honors including “Most Popular Online Game of the Year” at the 17173 China Online Game Rankings—solidifying its iconic status in China’s action MMO landscape.
