Set in the late Eastern Han Dynasty, the film centers on the intricate power struggle between the imperial family and court officials during Cao Cao’s peak reign—all revolving around plots to assassinate him. Through the complex emotional relationship between Chow Yun-fat’s Cao Cao and Liu Yifei’s character Ling Ju, the film unveils a tragic ballad of power and human struggle during the turbulent Three Kingdoms era.

The film won the Golden Angel Award at the 8th Chinese American Film Festival and was nominated for Best Visual Effects at the 3rd Beijing International Film Festival, earning international recognition for its high production value. A landmark in cultural crossover, the film deeply integrated with Tencent’s QTE-themed nation-war MMORPG [ X-Game ( Yu Long Zai Tian ) ], launching a Global Synchronized Launch Celebration that achieved two-way empowerment between film and game IPs. The collaboration attracted nearly a thousand participants and expanded audience influence.
